Cambridge Biomedical Campus Expansion

KMC Transport Planning Ltd (KMC) are appointed by the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC), the Pemberton Family and Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) to provide transport advice pertinent to the enhancement and potential expansion of the campus.

In September 2022, a report was published by CBC which details the local, regional, national, and global importance of the campus. This states that as a global leader in healthcare R&D, in 2021 alone CBC supported an aggregate economic footprint of £2.2 billion worth of Gross Value Added to the UK economy and a collaborative operating income of £1.9 billion, as well as contributing £291million to the Exchequer through tax revenues. Beyond these transformational delivered benefits, it is felt that CBC has the further potential to become even more of a standout global centre of healthcare delivery, life sciences research and commercialisation, through becoming a larger and better integrated, and attractive quarter of Cambridge.

Our work supports an Emerging Spatial Framework produced by Hawkins Brown as part of the Greater Cambridge Local Plan Development process. The Emerging Spatial Framework considers, and makes the case for, a better more integrated campus which takes account of existing commitments, campus stakeholder’s ambitions, and the expansion land.
