Wellcome Genome Campus

KMC Transport Planning has been closely involved in the expansion of the Wellcome Genome Campus, a globally recognised centre for genomics and biodata research in South Cambridgeshire. The project is delivering a transformational mixed-use science campus, with new research and development space, homes for staff, visitor accommodation, community facilities, and a range of supporting services.

Our role has focused on the transport and movement strategy required to support this long-term growth. Working as part of the core design team following the grant of outline permission, we have helped to translate masterplan principles into detailed proposals that balance ambitious development targets with sustainable transport objectives.

Key elements of our work include:

  • Developing site-wide transport and access strategies to manage growth across multiple phases.

  • Coordinating travel planning measures to encourage sustainable commuting and reduce reliance on private cars.

  • Ensuring walking, cycling, and public transport infrastructure is prioritised to connect new homes, research facilities, and community services.

  • Advising on parking, servicing and logistics strategies to support the complex operational needs of the campus.

We have supported the discharge of transport-related planning conditions and continue to play a central role in coordinating transport inputs across successive phases of delivery.

Our involvement is helping to ensure that the expansion of the Wellcome Genome Campus is underpinned by a forward-looking transport framework that supports growth, connectivity and sustainability.
