Urban Regeneration

KMC Transport Planning was appointed to provide transport and access advice in support of a residential scheme on Histon Road, Cambridge. The proposals will deliver 70 new homes on a brownfield site, formerly occupied by commercial uses, helping to bring an allocated site from the 2018 Local Plan forward for regeneration.
Our work focused on ensuring the development was well connected to the surrounding area. Particular attention was given to links with Histon Road Recreation Ground to the south-west, where careful consideration of public feedback, officer input, and design review advice informed the final access strategy. The inclusion of a new pedestrian connection will improve permeability and support sustainable travel choices for residents.
The development also delivers wider benefits in transport terms, including high-quality walking and cycling routes, integration with existing bus services, and an emphasis on reducing car dependency. Parking provision was carefully balanced to meet local needs while supporting the city’s ambitions for more sustainable modes of travel.
Through our involvement, the project has successfully addressed key transport and connectivity challenges, helping to secure planning consent for a high-quality scheme that contributes to both housing delivery and Cambridge’s wider transport objectives.
